Q:How do you treat a 9 month old who has entercolitis after introducing a new food?
This has been going on since 6 months and trying 8 different foods ( green beans, banana, avocado, black beans, carrots, rice cereal, pumpkin). Must wait till mucous green diarrhea and severe diaper rash clears up after each, sometimes a week. He has had vomiting only 3x and fever twice. on breastmilk, but started soy supplements per dr. to thicken stool.
Could immunization contribute to this problem in the gut? He is on lactobacillus probiotic.
Ans: This is not really a short answer. It would be best to see him again to evaluate him.
Be sure you are not on dairy or gluten. The probiotic is good. Give him water daily- half his body weight in water daily to flush his system. We have a Chinese herbaceutical that can help heal the gut. There are some homeopathic remedies that can help as well. No bananas- they are cold natured and hard to digest. No grain. No root veggies at this time. No soy. Many who have a problem with dairy will also have a problem with soy.Stick to seeded foods. Avocado is fine. Beans are fine. Anything with a seed is fine.
Acupuncture can help. And if nothing is working then a GI evaluation to have him scoped- he may have an enzyme deficiency that does not allow him to digest some foods well.
And yes- immunizations can trigger a cascade of issues…..
Thanks for asking.
